K1 De Ultimate’s apology: AGF, IG will decide – NCAA

K1 de Ultimate King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) says the fate of fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 de Ultimate or KWAM1, will be determined by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

NCAA spokesman Michael Achimugu stated this in an interview with Saturday Beats while reacting to K1’s public apology over his face-off with officials of ValueJet Airline at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday.

In a statement personally signed and shared on Friday, the 68-year-old described the incident as “unfortunate”, insisting it was never his intention to cause disruption or violate aviation protocols.

Footage of the altercation went viral on Wednesday, showing the fuji star appearing to obstruct the plane’s take-off. The video drew public backlash, prompting minister of aviation and aerospace development Festus Keyamo and the NCAA to impose a six-month flying ban on the singer. The pilots involved were also suspended and placed under investigation.

On Thursday, the NCAA confirmed it had petitioned the AGF and IGP, requesting K1’s probe and prosecution.

When asked about the next steps following the singer’s apology, Achimugu said he had not seen the apology.

He added, “We have referred the case to the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation, who are better positioned to determine and communicate the next steps.”

Keyamo also reacted to the apology in a WhatsApp message to the paper, saying, “We have just seen this (apology) on social media like everyone else. We have not had the opportunity to deliberate on it.”

In his public apology, the Fuji musician said, “The incident that occurred at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on August 5, 2025, involving my humble self and ValueJet Airline, was, to say the least, unfortunate.

“Unknown to many, I suffer from chronic dehydration, and my doctor strongly advised that I remain constantly hydrated. This is why I always carry a water flask with me. And contrary to the negative narrative being circulated in some quarters, the flask I carried on that particular day contained only water, not alcohol, as wrongly alleged.”

He explained that the flask passed through two security screenings empty and was only filled with water at the lounge before heading to the tarmac — something he said could be verified by CCTV footage.

Reaffirming his “unwavering patriotism and unshaken loyalty” to Nigeria, K1 said, “Over the years, I have consistently used my God-given talent and platform to promote the Nigerian brand across the globe. I would never do anything to tarnish the image I’ve built over the past five decades, nor would I knowingly act in a way that could diminish the reputation of the country I love so dearly.

“That said, the incident is sincerely regretted. I remain committed to upholding the values and responsibilities that come with being a global ambassador of Nigerian music and culture.

“To the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, ValueJet, fellow Nigerians, and my teeming fans across the world who have shown great concern since the incident happened, I tender my unreserved and heartfelt apology.”

The viral footage also showed the singer standing in front of the aircraft before it began moving in preparation for take-off, forcing him to duck as the wing nearly struck his head.
