K1 de Ultimate King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has claimed that Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 de Ultimate, had alcohol in his flask during a confrontation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, while K1 was preparing to board ValueJet Flight VK 201 to Lagos.

FAAN in a statement signed by its director of public affairs and consumer protection, Obiageli Orah, on Wednesday, said the singer brought an unidentified liquid substance to the boarding gate and was repeatedly advised by Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and the pilot of the aircraft that the item could not be taken on board.

K1 reportedly refused to comply and went ahead to pour the contents of the flask on the floor, splashing it on an AVSEC officer in the process.

“FAAN can confirm that the flask contained an alcoholic beverage,” the statement read.

“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) wishes to formally address the incident that occurred on Monday, 5th August 2025, at the domestic terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. The incident involved a notable Nigerian musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (also known as K1 De Ultimate), and a pilot of ValueJet Airlines.

“In accordance with international aviation security standards—specifically, Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and ICAO Annex 17—liquids exceeding 100 ml are not permitted through security screening unless medically necessary and properly declared. The passenger was informed of this regulation but reportedly declined to comply.”

FAAN said the singer moved to the front of the aircraft and refused to leave the area despite several requests.

“He was ultimately escorted away by AVSEC crime unit for further investigation, after which he was released,” the authority said.

“FAAN reiterates its unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all passengers, crew, and airport personnel. The Authority will not tolerate any actions that compromise operational integrity or undermine aviation safety standards, regardless of the individuals involved.

“This matter remains under thorough investigation, and all parties found culpable will be held accountable according to the law.

“FAAN is dedicated to the highest standards of professionalism, safety, and regulatory compliance across all Nigerian airports.”

Reports online claimed the singer was almost crushed when the aircraft began to taxi while he was still standing in front of it with some ground staff. He reportedly had to duck quickly to avoid being hit by the wing of the aircraft.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended the licences of ValueJet pilots captain Oluranti Ogoyi and first officer Ivan Oloba over the incident.

In a statement issued by NCAA’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, Michael Achimugu, the authority said captain Oluranti Ogoyi and first officer Ivan Oloba departed the Abuja airport without receiving clearance from air traffic control.

“The NCAA has suspended the pilot and first officer of a ValueJet flight that was involved in a serious safety breach at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja,” Achimugu said.

He added that the aircraft, a CRJ-900ER with registration 5N-BXS, was caught on video taxiing out of its parking position while airport personnel were still on the ground nearby.

“This action is a direct violation of civil aviation regulations and internationally established safety procedures. It put the lives of ground personnel and other airport users at risk,” the NCAA stated.

A 23-second video shared by the NCAA on its official X handle showed ground staff scrambling to get out of the way as the aircraft began to move.

Achimugu said the suspension takes effect immediately and will last until the conclusion of a full investigation. He assured that the NCAA remains committed to upholding safety in the Nigerian aviation industry.

ValueJet also issued a statement confirming that the crew had been removed from duty and promised full cooperation with the investigation.

K1 is yet to publicly respond to the incident.
