K1 attempted suicide after I sprayed over N5m on him, Isaac Fayose reacts to airport incident

Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, has demanded a refund from Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, over his recent conduct at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Fayose made the call in a video posted online on Thursday while reacting to a clip showing K1 and airport staff narrowly avoiding injury as a ValueJet aircraft prepared for takeoff. The singer was seen ducking near the tarmac as the plane taxied.

In the video, Fayose criticised K1’s actions and said the singer would have faced legal consequences abroad.

“After watching Wasiu Ayinde, Kwam 1 video with ValuJet, Mr Kwam 1 if you were to be abroad, you will be on your way to jail by now and they will give you three counts.

“Number 1 will be assault, assaulting airline officials, second will be on attempt to kpai yourself, that is attempted suicide. The third will be attempted suicide on our legend because you don’t own yourself, we own you. Why will you want to do that? How can you that we look up to, our legend, be doing that?” he said.

Fayose also revealed he recently spent money on the singer.

“Mr Wasiu I lost a bit of respect for you and three weeks ago I was spending money on you, almost five million naira on you. I wish I can get my refund. Because for you that want to kpai yourself you don’t deserve us spending money on you, you are supposed to be our role model for crying out loud. This our lawlessness is now wearing agbada and aso oke. Police do your job!” he added.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, while K1 was boarding ValueJet flight VK201 from Abuja to Lagos.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said in a memo that the singer attempted to board the flight with an alcoholic substance in a flask, in violation of aviation safety regulations. He allegedly refused to cooperate when confronted and poured the liquid on a security official.

FAAN condemned the act, saying it would not tolerate behaviour that compromises airport safety.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) also took action, placing a six-month ban on the singer from flying within the country. The agency said K1’s behaviour amounted to endangering lives by obstructing the aircraft during taxiing.

Minister of aviation and aerospace development Festus Keyamo confirmed the sanction on social media.

“Preliminary findings indicate that there was a temporary loss of sanity on the part of the passenger concerned, and a few of the airport staff and ValueJet operatives might have acted inappropriately,” he said.

Keyamo added that K1’s attempt to block the aircraft from taking off was similar to a “hostage situation.” He warned that any airline that disobeys the no-fly directive would face suspension or revocation of its licence.

The NCAA also suspended the pilot and first officer involved in the incident for failing to report the breach before attempting takeoff.

As of press time, K1 De Ultimate is yet to respond to Fayose’s outburst or the sanctions placed on him.
