Actress Joke Silva has been honoured with the Creative Vanguard Award at the Women in Film and TV (WIFT) Nigeria conference and awards.

A video shared on Instagram on Thursday showed the 63-year-old walking up the stage to receive the award. Joke also serves as president of WIFT Nigeria.

The second edition of the conference, themed “Creative Bridge: Empowering Talent, Accessing Ecosystems, Unlocking Markets!”, was held on September 16 at the Landmark Event Centre, Lagos. It was organised by WIFT Nigeria in partnership with Women in Film & TV Africa and Women in Film Los Angeles.

The two-day event recorded more than 1,500 participants, nearly double that of the inaugural edition, making it one of the largest gatherings of women in Africa’s screen industries in 2025.

It featured workshops, panel discussions and keynotes on creative financing, co-production, narrative agency and unlocking international markets.

Other speakers included Dr Inya Lawal, President of Women in Film & TV Africa and representatives from Women in Film Los Angeles, all emphasising themes such as creative financing, co-production, narrative agency and unlocking global markets.

The conference climaxed on Wednesday with the Women in Film & TV Africa Awards & Gala Night at the Landmark Event Centre, where Silva and other women in the creative sector were recognised for their impact.
