Singer Johnny Drille performed for the Super Falcons during a homecoming celebration held in their honour on Wednesday.
The event took place at the headquarters of Nigerian Breweries Plc in Iganmu, Lagos and was organised through its brands Amstel Malta and Goldberg to celebrate the team’s performance and promote women’s football in Nigeria.
Johnny Drille, known for his mellow and soulful sound, serenaded the players during the evening.
Videos shared online showed the Falcons smiling, clapping and dancing along to the Mavin Records artiste’s acoustic performance.
One clip showed Asisat Oshoala, Deborah Abiodun and Oluwatosin Demehin emotionally singing along with Johnny.
The singer’s appearance added a cultural flair to the occasion, which was part of a wider effort to appreciate the team’s hard work and growing impact on Nigerian football.
This was not the first time the Falcons were honoured for their achievements.
Earlier this week, President Bola Tinubu hosted the team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja following their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph.
Each player and official was awarded the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), a three-bedroom apartment and the naira equivalent of $100,000 for players and $50,000 for coaching staff.
The president described their win as a “triumph of courage, determination, discipline and consistency.”
The Super Falcons clinched their record-extending 10th WAFCON title after coming from two goals down to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2 in a dramatic final.
Johnny Drille, whose real name is John Ighodaro, is known for songs like ‘Wait for Me,’ ‘Count on You,’ and ‘How Are You (My Friend)’.
He recently released ‘Angelina’ with Fireboy DML and continues to perform at major shows across Nigeria and abroad.
