Chairman of Channels Media Group John Momoh has received a lifetime achievement award at the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards (NBA) held in Abuja.

Mr Momoh received the award at the second edition of the event organised by the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) on Wednesday.

Channels Television also won Television Station of the Year at the ceremony held at the NAF Conference Centre.

Other recipients of lifetime awards include Shyngle Wigwe, Yemi Farounbi, Abubakar Jijiwa, Sa’a Ibrahim and Bimbo Oloyede.

Posthumous awards were given to Raymond Dokpesi, Timawus Mathias, Okokon Ndem, Anike Agbaje-Williams and Patrick Ityohegh.

Those recognised for their support for the media industry include the minister of information and national orientation Mohammed Idris, governor of Cross River State Bassey Otu, governor of Zamfara State Dauda Lawal, governor of Kaduna State Uba Sani and former executive secretary of BON Obadiah Tohomdet.

Bayo Awosemo was also recognised.

Speaking at the event, Mr Lawal said the media has a role in shaping society.

“I believe the media has a role to play in shaping everything that we do, not just in Nigeria but all over the world,” he said.

Mr Idris, who hosted the event, commended BON for organising the awards. He said the number of entries shows participation in the industry.

“The fact that over 200 entries were received for this edition speaks volumes about the vibrancy, talent, and dedication that exist within the broadcast space,” he said.

He added that the award reflects the work of the ministry under President Bola Tinubu.

Outgoing BON chairman Abdulhamid Dembos, said the event recognises work in the industry and congratulated the winners.

Outgoing executive secretary of BON Yemisi Gbamgbose, said the selection process followed a set procedure.

He said BON was set up in Kano in May 2021 to provide a platform for broadcasters to assess work and recognise practitioners.

Chairman of the panel of judges Danladi Bako, said 248 entries were reviewed and three nominees selected in each category before winners emerged.

He said there is a need to address manpower in the industry despite the availability of technology.
