Joeboy stars on Easter edition of Glo-powered African Voices

Joeboy

Afropop singer Joeboy is featured on the Easter edition of African Voices, sponsored by Globacom.

The programme, which airs on CNN, sees anchor Larry Madowo in Lagos speaking with the singer about his journey in music.

Born Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus in 1997, Joeboy began his career in 2017 with a cover of Ed Sheeran’s song ‘Shape of You.’ The performance marked his transition from rapping to singing and drew the attention of Mr Eazi, who later admitted him into the emPawa Africa initiative.

He released ‘Fààjí’ featuring Mr Eazi in 2018 and subsequently secured a deal with Warner Music Africa. In 2019, he gained wider attention with ‘Baby’ and ‘Beginning.’ That same year, he released Love & Light, which included collaborations with Mayorkun.

Joeboy released his debut album Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic in 2021, followed by Body & Soul in 2023. He has received recognition including best artiste in African Pop at the All Africa Music Awards in 2019 and Best Pop at the Soundcity MVP Awards in 2020.

The Easter edition of African Voices will air at 7.30 a.m. on Saturday, with repeats at 11 a.m. the same day. It will also show on Sunday at 3.30 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday at 3 a.m. and 5.45 p.m., and Tuesday at 5.45 p.m. The schedule will continue into the following week.

African Voices is a long running programme that highlights African creatives, entrepreneurs and cultural figures, with Globacom as its headline sponsor for several years.
