Filmmaker and music producer Abdulrasheed Bello, popularly known as JJC Skillz, is making a return to the director’s chair with an action-packed thriller titled Hakeem: Seeking Justice.
The film is scheduled for nationwide cinema release on August 1.
Produced by Afristar Media and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, Hakeem: Seeking Justice follows the gripping story of a man battling with grief, betrayal and a failed system while seeking the truth behind a tragic loss.
Speaking about the film, JJC Skillz said:
“This story had to be intentional. We wanted to explore an action-packed film that will keep the audience at the edge of their seats, while still portraying a captivating and emotional story. Every shot, every performance, was crafted to reflect that intention.”
The lead role of Hakeem is played by Deyemi Okanlawon, who portrays a man pushed to the brink as he tries to find justice after a personal tragedy.
He is joined by an ensemble cast including Chioma Chukwuka, Zubby Michael, Bolanle Ninalowo, Gabriel Afolayan, Regina Daniels, Liquorose, Ali Nuhu, Skales and White Money.
Described as a mix of action and raw emotion, the film touches on themes of systemic failure, justice and vengeance. Critics have already likened its intensity and pacing to that of international action films like John Wick but with a Nigerian social context.
The story, according to a statement from the producers, was “deliberately crafted to speak to Nigerian realities, while offering audiences a cinematic experience filled with suspense, action, and emotional depth.”
Hakeem: Seeking Justice marks JJC Skillz’s solo return to cinema directing after the success of previous productions like Omo Ghetto: The Saga, Industreet and She Must Be Obeyed.
