Jigan Babaoja raises alarm over threats after phone number leaks online

Actor and singer Jigan Babaoja has raised an alarm over threats to his life after his phone number was leaked online.

The 42-year-old the disclosure in an Instagram post on Thursday, claiming the threats are linked to a controversy surrounding a WhatsApp group formed after the death of singer Mohbad.

He wrote:
“This is how they start! This is pure bullying all bcos you want to prove a point! You let my personal number out to your people to keep calling and sending threats to me! Exactly what was done to the late Mohbad!
@nigeriapoliceforce I’m calling your attention to the number of threats that come to me!

“Instead of letting you kpai me like you kpai Mohbad, I will start by using all the things in my surroundings to kick against oppression and bullying!

“All these numbers will regret ever coming to this world! Just a few scapegoats and the rest will fondagbe!

“Amount of threats! Clearly shows they will attack me even on the streets! But for the street, I’m fully prepared and I’m aware!

“But @benjaminhundeyin @nigeriapoliceforce and all well‑meaning Nigerians! Something needs to be done!”

Jigan’s post comes days after media personality VeryDarkMan alleged that the actor was part of a WhatsApp group set up by actress Iyabo Ojo in the wake of Mohbad’s death. Other celebrities reportedly in the group include Tonto Dikeh, Dre DMW and Sam Larry’s brother Olamilekan Eletu.

Jigan initially urged VeryDarkMan to release the full chat for the public to judge but later said he owed no one an explanation.

He wrote on Instagram, “So far Nigerians ain’t asking for the evidences no more! Something you paid 20m to achieve and you can’t post it no longer! Are we still in the slavery era?

“Na leg dey pain me not my brain! We shall see to the end of this! Thank you Allah, Olujo Mimo!”

Jigan has now called on the police to take the threats seriously, saying he is prepared to defend himself on the streets if necessary.

Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Aloba, died on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances. His death sparked protests and calls for justice across the country.
