Jandor visits Sanwo-Olu, thanks governor for warm reception

Olajide Adediran Jandor

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for Lagos State in the 2023 elections, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, paid a visit to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday at the Lagos House, Ikeja.

Following a private meeting with the governor, Jandor addressed journalists, expressing his congratulations on Sanwo-Olu’s re-election and commending the governor’s warm reception.

“I have gone to my local government to do that. We had that on Friday. The next step was to pay the number one citizen of the state an official visit to inform him that we have returned to the party,” Adediran said.

He acknowledged the division within their political base during the last election and highlighted the need for unity. “We all knew what happened during the last election. It was because the house was divided. Now, we are together, and we are back,” he stated.

Adediran praised Sanwo-Olu’s composure during the election season, describing him as a “gentleman” who remained calm amid political tensions. “I commend your composure throughout the campaign. In a season marked by intense political tension, your calmness stood out, and, in my view, it played a significant role in your winning.”

The former gubernatorial candidate emphasised that his visit was a step toward fostering unity and maturity in Lagos politics. “Lagos deserves a political climate where leaders can engage constructively regardless of party affiliation. I believe this gesture reflects the kind of politics we should be practising—one that prioritises the development of our state above personal or partisan interests,” he said.

Sharing details of his visit on social media, Jandor described Governor Sanwo-Olu’s hospitality as “warm and insightful.” He lauded the governor’s willingness to engage in forward-looking discussions, which focused on strategic initiatives to enhance Lagos’ socio-economic resilience.

Jandor, who was previously a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), joined the PDP ahead of the 2023 elections. He is also the convener of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, a group advocating for reforms and internal democracy within the APC.

Reflecting on his political journey, Adediran said his decision to return to the APC was informed by the sincerity of President Bola Tinubu, who made challenging decisions for the country’s progress, despite potential political repercussions.
