Musician Innocent Onyebuchi, popularly known as Daddy Fresh, has opened up about his failing health, saying he has sold everything he owned while battling a prolonged illness.

In a video shared by filmmaker Kunle Afod on Instagram on Wednesday, the once vibrant Ajegunle-born singer was seen lying weakly on a hospital bed.

Kunle, who visited him, posted the clip on Facebook with the caption, “Daddy Fresh must not die. One of Nigeria’s finest artistes is in a terrible condition.”

Wearing a blue sleeveless top, Daddy Fresh appeared shocked when Afod entered the ward. “Na lie, how you take know say I dey here? You’re the last person I could think of. I was wondering if I was hallucinating again,” he said faintly.

Speaking about his condition, the ‘Elerugbe Erue’ crooner revealed that he had been bedridden for more than two years. “My kidney, my liver, neuropathy. Eyes, two of them get issues, I don operate on this one, e no dey see again. I no dey see you,” he said.

He added that his blood level had dropped to 25 per cent and that he currently needed blood transfusion. “If I stand up here now, I go fall except somebody hold me. See my face, my knees, wounds because of falling like a child that is learning how to walk,” he added.

The singer, who lamented being served a quit notice, said he might soon be thrown out of his apartment due to unpaid rent. “I have a few days in my house because of the rent. I have to move on to where I don’t know,” he said.

Despite his dire condition, Daddy Fresh said Afod’s visit gave him hope. The filmmaker, who gave him some money and promised to return, urged Nigerians and the entertainment industry to rally around the singer.

“This is Daddy Fresh. If you know him, you’ll know what I’m talking about. We need your support. Nigerians, entertainers, please let’s keep him alive,” Afod appealed.

Daddy Fresh, known for his hit songs in the 1990s and as a founding member of the Ajegunle sound movement alongside Daddy Showkey and Baba Fryo, had in 2024 revealed he was battling partial stroke and kidney issues.
