Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District, has dismissed as fake a viral video circulating on social media that appears to show him massaging the leg or foot of a woman aboard a private jet.
The video, which has generated reactions online, surfaced amid criticism over Senator Oshiomhole’s recent comment that food prices in Nigeria had become “too cheap,” a remark that drew responses from Nigerians facing economic pressure.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Embassy-Oseni Momodu, his media office described the footage as a fabricated AI-generated video, saying it was created to damage the senator’s image.
According to the statement, the video shows signs of digital manipulation, pointing to inconsistencies beginning around the 0.6-second mark when the woman is seen boarding an aircraft, compared with the rest of the clip.
The office said the footage did not reflect any real incident involving Oshiomhole.
The media office also faulted the circulation of the video by some online platforms and accused them of sharing unverified content.
It described the circulation of the video as cyberbullying and said steps had been taken to identify those responsible for producing and publishing it.
The statement urged the public to verify content before sharing allegations against public officials.
The office further said manipulated digital content had become common on social media and called for regulation to address misuse, while stating that Oshiomhole supports lawful content creation.
The video had earlier gained attention on social media platforms, with reactions from public figures including activist Omoyele Sowore and social media commentator Martin Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, who criticised what they described as a gap between the senator’s public comments on food prices and his perceived lifestyle.
The clip, which first appeared on TikTok before being deleted by the uploader, showed a man resembling Oshiomhole seated beside a woman on a private jet.
The footage was later reshared on platforms including X and Instagram.
Following the spread of the video, online discussions also claimed the woman involved was a South African content creator, with reports that related images and videos were briefly posted and later removed from social media platforms.
