It was AI-generated, Florence Ajimobi disowns viral video on Oyo 2027 election

Former first lady of Oyo State Florence Ajimobi has disowned a video circulating on social media in which she was purportedly heard saying that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would treat the 2027 governorship election in the state as a war.

In the video, Mrs Ajimobi, widow of the late former governor Abiola Ajimobi, was allegedly seen claiming that the APC would deploy money and federal power against the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Ajimobi denied making the remarks, saying the video was generated using artificial intelligence.

According to her, a digital forensic review showed that the footage was a synthetic fabrication created with generative AI technology.

“The footage is a deepfake, where artificial intelligence has been used to manipulate the lip movements and voice to deliver a script that Dr Ajimobi never spoke,” the statement said.

She said the video represents a form of synthetic deception that experts have warned could be deployed to influence the 2027 political cycle.

“The use of AI to impersonate public figures and manufacture statements is a dangerous development that undermines democratic discourse,” she said.

Florence Ajimobi urged the public, media organisations and security agencies to treat the video as a hoax and to verify the authenticity of digital content before sharing.

She said advances in digital manipulation make it necessary to confirm the source of such materials before distribution.

The former first lady added that she remains committed to truth and the democratic process, noting that she reserves the right to seek legal action against those responsible for creating and distributing the video.
