Nigerian-British boxer Anthony Joshua has spoken about the deaths of two of his friends following a car crash during a conversation with UFC fighter Kamaru Usman.

The conversation was shared in a YouTube video posted by Usman.

It took place while Joshua was recovering from injuries sustained in the crash and ahead of a mixed martial arts event held in Lagos on December 30.

Joshua survived a road accident on December 29 along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The crash claimed the lives of his friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.

Joshua was pulled from the vehicle and taken to a hospital for treatment.

In the video, Joshua told Usman that the reality of the loss had not yet settled in.

When asked by Usman about where Ghami and Ayodele were seated in the vehicle, Joshua said, “One was in the front and one was behind him, on the right side. They both passed away. It still hasn’t sunk in. It still hasn’t hit me yet.”

Responding, Usman said, “I’m sorry for that, man. You scared the world.”

Joshua replied, “Life is short, man. Life is short. And now look, I get to speak with you for the first time.”

Usman added, “We thank God,” while Joshua reflected on public reactions following the incident, saying it revealed how many people were paying attention to him.

After being discharged from hospital, Joshua returned to the United Kingdom.

On Sunday, he shared a photograph on his social media platforms showing him with the families of the deceased.

He captioned the image, “My Brother’s Keeper.”
