Islamic cleric Sheikh Usman Idris, also known as Rigi-Rigi, has died at the age of 57.
His death was confirmed on Monday in Zaria by Nasiruddeen Umar, also known as Baharu, a senior disciple of the cleric.
Mr Umar said Sheikh Rigi-Rigi died in the early hours of Monday at a private hospital in Kaduna after battling an illness for several months.
“He died in the early hours of today at a private hospital in Kaduna after battling an illness for a few months,” Umar said.
According to him, the cleric was known for his Islamic teachings and had a wide following on TikTok and other social media platforms.
“Sheikh Kusfa was known for his Islamic teachings and his messages reached many people through social media,” he said.
Umar said the cleric is survived by four wives, 37 children and many grandchildren.
He added that the funeral prayer has been scheduled to take place in Kusfa, Zaria City, by 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
“The funeral prayer will hold today in Kusfa, Zaria City, by 4:30 p.m.,” Umar said.
Sheikh Rigi-Rigi was based in Zaria, Kaduna State, where he taught Islamic studies and delivered sermons. He was known for presenting Qur’anic exegesis and religious lessons that were shared by his followers online.
Following news of his death, members of the Muslim community offered prayers for him and his family, asking Allah to grant him mercy and give his family and students strength.
