Impeachment: Jandor backs Tinubu to resolve Rivers crisis, says Fubara is safe

Olajide Adediran Jandor

APC 2027 Lagos governorship aspirant Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has said Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is politically safe in the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite renewed impeachment threats against him.

Rivers State House of Assembly recently initiated fresh impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, over allegations of misconduct.

The move is linked to the ongoing political disagreement between Fubara and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Speaking after participating in the APC e-registration exercise on Saturday at Ward G, Irewe, Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State, Jandor said the situation would be resolved through the party’s internal leadership structure.

He expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would intervene, describing the president as the leader of the party and the country.

“I so believe that as the father of the party and the leader of the country, President Tinubu has heard that there is an issue between the governor and the minister,” Jandor said.

He stated that the APC operates a system where party leaders intervene to maintain order, which he said was absent in the Peoples Democratic Party.

“That is what you don’t have in PDP. We have that in APC. There’s no way anybody will want to act on their own in APC because we now have a leader that we are all looking up to,” he said.

Jandor added that when party leadership gives direction, members comply.

“When he gives a command, everyone obeys. PDP never had that and that is why it has gone into extinction today,” he said.

Referring to the impeachment attempt against Fubara, Jandor said he was initially concerned when the governor was still a member of the PDP.

“When they started the impeachment notice at the time when he was in PDP, I had my fear for him, but now I know that the president of the country, who is the leader of the party, will call them to order and it will be resolved,” he said.

According to him, the Rivers political crisis has now become an internal APC matter.

“Rivers State matter is now a family affair in APC. The father of everybody will wade into it, and the moment he says ‘shut up’ to everyone, we will all obey,” Jandor said.

He compared the situation to internal party decisions in Lagos State, noting that party members align once leaders reach a consensus.

“Just like in Lagos State, the moment the leaders of the party agreed on a direction, everyone had to comply,” he said.

Jandor also criticised opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress, stating that internal divisions persist within them.

“When I was in PDP, from the first day till I left, we were settling disputes. They have continued the same thing in ADC,” he said.

He cited Osun State as an example of how APC resolves internal disagreements through leadership intervention.

“The party agreed to go one way. Though there were disagreements, the moment the leader summoned everyone, they all agreed and went into the election,” he said.

Jandor maintained that the APC remains stable in Rivers State and that all parties involved would align once leadership intervenes.

“So APC is fine in Rivers State. Fubara is fine in Rivers State. The assembly members are fine. They will call everyone into the room and straighten everyone up,” he said.

QEDNG had earlier reported that Governor Fubara defected from the PDP to the APC, citing support received from President Tinubu during the political crisis in the state.

The defection followed the move by 15 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including Speaker Martin Amaewhule, who joined the APC in December.

Fubara’s defection marked the first time Rivers State has an APC governor since 1999.
