The minister of women affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has congratulated the comptroller general of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, on the extension of his tenure by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Thursday through her special adviser on media and publicity, Jonathan Eze, the minister commended Adeniyi for his professionalism and commitment to national service.
She noted that his leadership has brought significant progress to trade facilitation, revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations across the country.
“The CG’s ongoing reforms and modernization efforts have positively impacted the economic stability and security of the country,” the minister stated.
Mrs Imaan also thanked President Tinubu for retaining experienced and dedicated public servants in key positions, describing the decision as a show of confidence in capable hands.
“This decision reaffirms Mr. President’s commitment to excellence, continuity, and institutional strength in key sectors of national development,” she said.
The minister added that the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs is looking forward to deeper collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service under Adeniyi’s leadership, particularly in areas such as the protection of women and children, anti-trafficking campaigns and the promotion of inclusive national policies.
Adeniyi was appointed acting comptroller general of the Nigeria Customs Service in June 2023 and confirmed as substantive CG in October the same year.
His administration has since implemented strategic policy changes aimed at boosting customs operations, streamlining port activities and increasing inter-agency cooperation.
The extension of his tenure comes amid growing calls for continuity in leadership across federal institutions.
