Rapper Mr Real has apologised to singer D’banj over comments he made about the Creative, Reality, Entertainment, Arts and Music (CREAM) platform.
The controversy began when Mr Real claimed the platform could not afford to offer him a N20 million ambassadorial deal, which sparked criticism online.
In response, D’banj’s legal counsel, Pelumi Olajengbesi, filed a petition accusing the rapper of criminal defamation and requested a criminal summons.
A court ordered Mr Real to appear on January 19 and issued an injunction preventing him from making further public statements about D’banj pending the case.
In an Instagram video, Mr Real said his remarks were based on a misunderstanding and acknowledged D’banj’s role in his career.
“This video is an apology to my boss, D’banj. I misunderstood and misinterpreted some things concerning the CREAM platform, and I want to sincerely say I am very sorry,” he said.
He added, “D’banj, you have played a big role in my life and career. You are like a father and mentor to me. I am truly sorry, and I ask for your forgiveness. I promise to comply with the legal process and give my full support and cooperation. I remain loyal to you.”
Mr Real also confirmed he had withdrawn his previous comments and would not make further public statements, pledging to resolve the matter privately while maintaining respect in the music industry. “I hold D’banj in the highest regard, and I am committed to doing better moving forward,” he said.
D’banj’s CREAM platform has been involved in industry initiatives, including a partnership with the African Export-Import Bank to support creative sector projects.
