I’m not the wicked woman you see on screen – Lola Idije

Veteran actress Toyin Afolayan, popularly known as Lola Idije, has said her stern movie roles do not reflect her true personality.

In an interview with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, the 65-year-old clarified that she is far from wicked in reality.

“I am not wicked in reality. My faith in God guides me, and I live a modest lifestyle. I don’t indulge in drinking, smoking, or other habits people often associate with movie characters,” she said.

Lola Idije added that her strong on-screen presence comes from discipline and commitment to her craft, stressing that her private life is the opposite of the characters she portrays.

The actress hails from Agbamu in Kwara State. She is a relative of the late Nollywood pioneer Adeyemi Afolayan, popularly known as Ade Love, whom she credits for guiding her early career.

Her breakout role came in 1995 when she starred as Madam Adisa in Deadly Affair. Over the years, she has built a reputation for her mother-in-law roles and for coining popular slang like “Soro Soke Werey” and “Pele My Dear” which later gained traction on social media.

Although she once aspired to be a businesswoman, Lola said her late brother encouraged her to pursue acting.
