Singer Omah Lay has declared himself the best artiste to emerge from the country in the last two decades.
Omah Lay also suggested that Burna Boy is the only contemporary he sometimes compares himself with, reinforcing his belief in his place at the top of the Afrobeats scene.
In an interview, the Port Harcourt-born artiste said, “When it comes to art, like making music, I am the best of the last 20 years, maybe the only person that sometimes I put myself with is Burna Boy.”
He added, “I don’t want to brag too much, but I am the best at this.”
The statement has stirred reactions among fans and music observers.
Born Stanley Omah Didia, Omah Lay rose to prominence in 2020 with his debut EP Get Layd, which produced hit songs such as ‘Bad Influence’ and ‘You.’ He later released his debut album Boy Alone in 2022, a project noted for its introspective themes and strong reception among listeners.
