President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting religious freedom and ensuring the safety of Nigerians of all faiths.
The president stated this in his 2025 Christmas goodwill message released on Wednesday.
“As your President, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect all people of different faiths from violence,” he said.
Tinubu said Christmas offered an opportunity to reflect on the message of Jesus Christ and the values of love, peace, hope and goodwill to humanity.
He extended Christmas greetings to Christians in Nigeria and around the world, while also calling for peace among people of different religious beliefs.
The president said Nigerians have the right to live, worship and pursue their aspirations in safety and dignity, regardless of ethnicity or belief.
“No one, regardless of ethnicity or belief, should be made to suffer for professing and practising his faith,” he said.
Tinubu acknowledged the role of Christians in national development, noting their contributions to caring for the vulnerable and promoting peace and tolerance in their communities.
He said his administration had engaged religious leaders during the year to address concerns about intolerance and insecurity, adding that such engagements would continue to strengthen peaceful coexistence.
The president also urged Nigerians travelling during the festive period to exercise patience and discipline on the roads, wishing them safe journeys.
He concluded by wishing Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year in advance.
