IGP Disu presents N2.4bn to families of deceased officers

Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu has presented cheques totalling N2.4 billion to 1,075 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of police officers who died in service.

The funds were disbursed under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, according to a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer Anthony Placid.

The statement said the sum of N2,435,421,584.11 covers policy years from 2018/2019 to 2025/2026, including outstanding insurance claims from previous years.

Force Insurance Officer Lydia Ameh said the payments show the decision of the IGP to focus on the welfare of officers and their families.

She said the funds include recoveries from unpaid insurance obligations and that steps have been taken to ensure compliance by insurance providers and reduce delays in claims.

Ameh also said the Force Insurance Unit remains committed to service delivery.

In his remarks, IGP Disu said the presentation recognises officers who died in the line of duty and noted that welfare remains part of his administration.

“This goes beyond financial support,” he said, adding that it reflects the responsibility of the Force to honour officers and support their families.

He said efforts would continue to improve welfare processes, reduce delays and ensure proper handling of benefits.

Disu added that the Force would use technology to improve transparency, manage records and process claims.

The Nigeria Police Force said the contributions of the deceased officers remain important to the country’s security.
