Ife North monarchs issue 21-day ultimatum to Oluwo over allegation against Ooni

Oluwo Oba Abdurosheed Akanbi

Traditional rulers in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State have given the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, 21 days to retract his allegation against the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, or face legal action.

The monarchs issued the ultimatum in a communiqué released after their meeting on Thursday in Edunabon.

The communiqué was read by the Salu of Edunabon, Oba Adesoji Oladepo.

Oba Akanbi, in a video posted on his social media page on Wednesday, had accused the Ooni of attempting to assassinate him by allegedly using his former wife against him.

The monarchs described the claim as an insult to the Ooni and a dent on the image of the traditional institution.

They urged the Oluwo to either petition the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for investigation or sue the Ooni to prove the allegation.

They warned that failure to take either of the steps would leave them with no option but to drag him to court.

The rulers also recalled that the Oluwo had previously clashed with traditional rulers in the Iwo axis, including the Olu of Ile-Igbo, Olowu of Kuta, Olu of Songbe and Agbowu of Ogbaagba.

They noted that his clash with the Agbowu of Ogbaagba had resulted in injury and hospitalisation, leading to his six-month suspension from the state council of traditional rulers.

Those present at the Edunabon meeting included the Alasipa of Asipa Oba Mufutau Oyekanmi, the Olulamokun of Yakooyo Oba Meshach Oyediran and the Alakinlalu of Akinlalu Oba Oluwabusola Oloyede.
