Lead pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Paul Enenche, has caused a stir online following comments he made about his wife, Dr Becky Enenche, in a video.

Speaking to his congregation during a sermon, the 56-year-old cleric revealed that he did not marry his wife based on her appearance.

“If sight was leading me, I wouldn’t marry my wife,” he said.

Enenche, who hails from Benue State, explained that when they first met, his wife was a medical student who didn’t pay much attention to her appearance.

“She just was anyhow,” he said, adding that “she never cared for nothing.”

The pastor further disclosed that he and Becky have told their children the story.

“I told my children the other day and they were all laughing. And she told them herself.”

Dr Becky, who was seated at the front during the message, laughed and confirmed the account, noting that she mostly wore A-line skirts and jump-up sleeves when they met.

“There were flashy people around — very flashy. They were also spiritual and flashy. But God led otherwise,” Enenche added.

He used the moment to counsel his members, saying, “Not everything that looks good in the moment has a future.”

Paul and Becky Enenche got married in 1994 and have four children together.

The video has drawn mixed reactions online.

While some social media users defended the pastor’s honesty, others criticised what they see as a growing trend of pastors making their wives subjects of public jokes during sermons.
