Actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has clarified that her colleague Ibrahim Chatta did not lose his biological son as widely reported.
Reports had circulated on Saturday that the 54-year-old actor was mourning his child after he shared a post on Instagram that read, “Inna liLlahi wa inna ileyhi rajiun. Ya Allah, You are the Knower of all things Rest on Dear Son. Champ.”
The post drew condolences from fans and colleagues who assumed he had lost one of his children.
However, Opeyemi explained in an Instagram post on Sunday that the deceased was Ibrahim’s godson and not his biological son.
“Ibrahim Chatta didn’t lose his biological son but a godson who is also like a son to him. May his pure soul continue to rest peacefully… It’s been an extremely emotional ride so far. God have mercy,” she wrote.
Following the clarification, Ibrahim edited his Instagram post to reflect that the boy was his godson.
The Lisabi actor also released a video and clarified that the deceased he was mourning was not his biological son but a beloved godson who was like a son to him.
The misunderstanding had trended across social media with fans and media houses initially reporting that the actor lost his child.
Ibrahim, known for his roles in Yoruba movies like Aiyekooto, Olokiki Oru and King of Thieves, has one biological son from his previous marriage.
