A confrontation between a passenger and a cabin crew member onboard an Ibom Air flight has drawn public attention after a video of the incident surfaced on social media on Sunday.
The clip shows the passenger, who had arrived from Uyo to Lagos, in a physical tussle with a female cabin crew member as airport security personnel attempted to intervene.
The exchange escalated and the securities dragged her out of the aircraft.
In the process, her crop shirt tore, exposing her breasts.
Officials from the Aviation Security (AVSEC) unit stepped in to separate the two parties and restore order.
The passenger was again forcefully dragged off the tarmac into an airport bus after she refused to leave voluntarily.
The reason for the confrontation has not been confirmed, but initial reports suggest it followed the passenger’s refusal to comply with in-flight safety instructions, including switching off a mobile phone during landing.
The incident comes days after a similar confrontation involving fuji singer Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as, K1 De Ultimate and an airline staff member at the Lagos airport.
Reacting to the video, Michael Achimugu, director of public affairs and consumer protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), called on passengers to follow safety protocols.
“When cabin crew ask you to turn off your phone before takeoff/landing, simply comply. I can’t understand why simple routine issues would lead to incidents like this. Passengers need to understand that they have responsibilities, not just rights,” he said.
The NCAA said further information on the case will be made public after its review.
