I won’t let anyone, even my wife, control me – Kumuyi

General superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has issued a strong warning against rebellion within the church, cautioning members, workers and even his own spiritual children not to undermine spiritual leadership.

Pastor Kumuyi, who delivered the message during a sermon, stressed the importance of submitting to divine guidance and church authority.

He declared that he would not tolerate any attempt to manipulate or dictate his spiritual direction.

“I say it publicly, I reject any member of the church, my child, my son, my daughter, any worker, somebody who should be under me learning, anyone trying to control me,” he said.

“I won’t even take it from my wife because I’m the head of the home.”

Drawing parallels between a church leader and a pilot, Kumuyi said just as passengers would not challenge a pilot mid-flight, believers must not resist their spiritual leaders.

“We need to understand, you’re not going to fight your pastor, fight your shepherd, fight the pilot. He’s leading us in the way to heaven,” he stated.

The respected cleric also reacted strongly to a recent suggestion that a successor should be appointed, saying such comments make him feel unwanted or that he is overstaying his leadership.

“Asking for a successor makes me think you’re tired of my being straightforward,” Kumuyi said.

“Thank you very much. I need to get all this corrected so that you don’t make me feel that, really, I’m imposing myself on you. How can a father impose himself on his children?”

He emphasised that if a successor is to be chosen, it will be God’s decision and at God’s appointed time.

“Your father in the Lord is still here,” he said, asserting his continued presence and leadership in the church.

Kumuyi concluded his message with a plea for peace, unity and continued faithfulness in the church.

He urged members not to “drive him away,” stressing that although they can’t remove him, they shouldn’t cause disruptions that would make him weary.
