Music executive Tobi Mohammed, popularly known as Alhaji Popping, has opened up on how he and fellow artiste Rayce survived a deadly attack in Bauchi State.
Speaking in an episode of the Adesope Live show shared on Friday, Popping said he and Rayce were attacked in 2017.
He said: “Me and Rayce were shot at 10 times in Bauchi in a car in 2017 by guys wearing military uniforms. If my mom watches this, she’s going to call me and pray for me because I didn’t tell her about the incident.
“We were shot at. Bullets entered the steering, wheel, AC, the boot, but not one touched me. The experience is one of the things that have made me very close to God. Because I realised that everything that has happened to me was an expression of grace.”
The showbiz entrepreneur said the experience changed his outlook on life and drew him closer to God.
Bauchi has in recent years witnessed attacks by bandits and other armed groups. The state has also recorded cases of criminals impersonating soldiers to carry out operations.
Other Nigerian entertainers have also had similar close shaves. Actress Kemi Afolabi was attacked by armed robbers in Ogun State in 2022, while a video from a concert that same year in Port Harcourt sparked reports that singer Teni was almost kidnapped after gunshots rang out during her performance.
However, Teni later cleared the air, saying it was not a kidnap attempt but a fight backstage that caused panic.
