I was blacklisted for refusing sexual advances from marketers – Moji Afolayan

Actress Moji Afolayan has revealed that Nollywood film marketers blacklisted her for refusing their sexual advances during the early years of her acting career.

The 57-year-old, daughter of late filmmaker Adeyemi Afolayan also known as Ade Love, made the revelation in an interview with Oyinmomo TV.

“This is because, at that time, when we had marketers at Idumota, they used to give producers money to work,” she said.

“However, due to the kind of training I received at home, I cannot trade my body for movies. My husband, who married me, has not even done anything. You will notice that I am trying to speak in proverbs.”

Moji, who is married to actor Rasaq Olayiwola, popularly known as Ojopagogo, said she was punished for not giving in to the sexual demands of marketers.

“Because I did not do it, they held a meeting among themselves not to call me,” she said.

“I did not sleep with them. I did not offer my body for sex.”

The actress added, “Many of them will have their husbands outside while the wives will be with them inside. I am exposing their secrets now.”

Despite being denied movie roles, Moji said she never compromised her values.

“It was because I did not offer myself for sex that they denied me movie roles,” she said.

“I thank God I stood with my dignity. That is what I am enjoying today. I held on to my virginity. I stand out among them now.”

She also narrated how a late female colleague, who also rejected sexual advances, was turned away by a marketer at Arena.

“The lady at the time told me to continue with my nobility,” she said.

“She narrated how the marketer told her how he had slept with people in the industry.”

In November 2024, Moji mourned the passing of her grandmother in an emotional Instagram post, describing the deceased as “Iya gangan” and thanking God for her life.

Moji began her career in the 1980s and has appeared in several Yoruba-language films. Some of her notable works include Iya Ni Wura, Idi Oromi, Eyin Oku, Arinjo, Tojubole, Lakurubutu, Ikoko Emi, Ore Meji, Se Ala Ni, and Orisa Opoki. She also featured in her brother Kunle Afolayan’s 2022 Netflix film Aníkúlápó.

In 2023, she appeared in Moriyeba parts 1 and 2.

Moji Afolayan is the eldest child in the Afolayan movie dynasty, which includes her siblings Kunle, Gabriel and Aremu.
