I travel on family private jet to cut costs – Ademola Adeleke

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said he mostly travels on his family’s private jet to reduce the burden of travel costs on the state’s finances.

The governor made this known in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, while reacting to reports that the state government spent N3.1 billion on domestic and international travel within six months.

The statement described the report as misleading, explaining that the amount quoted covered the full-year training allocation for more than 100 ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in Osun State for 2025.

“Contrary to the report, the amount attributable to Governor Adeleke’s travel is negligible. Most of his trips, including the recent one to the United States, were funded using his family’s private jet,” the statement said.

It added that the training expenses and travels were largely carried out in the first half of the year to make room for upcoming pre-2026 political activities.

The statement also pointed to several international engagements attended by Osun State officials, including the Commonwealth Business Investment Conference, where Adeleke led a delegation to meet potential partners in the creative sector and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ESG Management Services UK Ltd. to facilitate investments in agriculture, manufacturing and solid minerals.

Addressing reports on the state’s expenditure on fumigation, the statement clarified that the funds were used to maintain hygiene across government buildings, including the state secretariat, government house, health facilities, public schools and agencies.

The spokesperson emphasised that the figures cited in the reports were publicly posted on the state government’s website, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to transparency.

“There are no smoking guns,” he said.

“Anyone seeking a detailed breakdown of the state’s expenditures is encouraged to request it under the Freedom of Information Act.”
