I started smoking at 13, Tonto Dikeh opens up on quitting after 27 years

Actress and politician Tonto Dikeh has spoken about quitting smoking after more than two decades, revealing that she picked up the habit as a teenager.

Tonto shared her experience during a Sunday service at Streams of Joy International Church in Uyo, where she gave a personal testimony about her past struggles and recent change.

“I smoked since I was 13. God healed me from masturbation, too. I have known myself to have sexual intercourse in the dream ever since I was a child,” she told the congregation.

She said she almost decided against speaking publicly about her past because she was worried about her image, but later chose to speak openly.

“The devil tried to tell me that I was supposed to protect my image. But I told myself, what image? The God that gave me the image is the same God that can take it away,” she said.

Tonto also spoke about dealing with intense anger, which she said affected her personal life and relationships.

“An anger that destroyed my life. Everybody had to feel it. But praying with NSPPD, God took all of those away and gave me peace,” she said.

According to her, smoking and alcohol no longer have a hold on her.

“My body does not ask for it. My body is repelling it. Today, it is broken,” she said.

She advised parents to be mindful of habits children may copy, explaining that she started smoking after watching her father smoke.

Pastor Jerry Eze prayed for her during the service, declaring that “the body of sin is broken,” and described her as “a voice in her generation.”

In recent months, Tonto has spoken more openly about her Christian faith and how it has shaped her lifestyle.
