Former TVC Entertainment managing director and Your View host Morayo Afolabi-Brown has apologised to Pastor Emmanuel Iren, founder of Celebration Church International (CCI), following remarks she made about him during an interview on The Morayo Show.
The interview featured Pastor Dolapo Lawal and focused on marriage and sex.
During the episode, Mrs. Afolabi-Brown referenced a statement she said Pastor Iren made in a sermon.
She asked Pastor Lawal, “There was a preacher who said that there’s something called maintenance sex where a wife is obligated, if you’re tired, just lie down, nobody is asking for anything. Do you agree or do you disagree?”
Pastor Lawal responded by framing the concept in terms of marriage duties, stating, “I think what he was talking about is dutiful sex over beautiful sex. God designed marriage to teach us something about our work with him.”
He went on to share personal insights from his marriage, saying, “In my marriage, I noticed quickly because for the first six months, my wife and I were going through a lot. There is a level of sanctification you’ll not experience if you’re not married. You can mistake isolation for purity and you can also think you have self-control until you start dating someone you like.”
Afolabi-Brown then returned to the topic, stating that “dutiful sex” can be painful for the woman, even if the man experiences satisfaction.
Following public reaction, Afolabi-Brown issued an apology on Instagram on Wednesday.
In the main message, she acknowledged her error, “Hello All, I’ve seen the comments on my last post about @pst_iren. My intention was not to misquote him, which is what I did. I was just trying to make a point to show women’s exhaustion as regards the topic but I shouldn’t have used the word ‘obligated’.”
In the caption of the post, she added context about the purpose of the apology and the show’s approach.
The 45-year-old explained that she decided not to remove the post, saying it serves as a reminder to herself and the production team about the responsibility of producing a live show.
She highlighted that the same audience who praise the show can also criticise it for small errors.
Morayo Afolabi-Brown confirmed that she had sent Pastor Iren a private message.
She emphasised that the show is not meant for sensationalism or clout but focuses on bringing content to viewers and guests.
This apology followed the controversy generated by her wording during the discussion on the show.
