Record producer and singer Samuel Oguachuba, known as Samklef, says he owns six tracks from singer Wizkid’s debut album, Superstar.
He made the claim on social media, saying the songs were recorded at his studio and that no formal contract was signed for the sessions.
“Thank God I never used my masters to collect any loan. I’m about to negotiate with @BankyW since I didn’t sign any contract from the beginning. I hope the Wizkid Superstar masters were never sold,” he wrote.
“I own 6 tracks from the masters because Banky didn’t pay for the studio sessions — and I also own the studio where all the songs were recorded.”
Superstar was released on June 12, 2011, under Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) and marked Wizkid’s first studio album. The project featured hit singles and contributions from producers including Samklef, Shizzi, Jay Sleek, DJ Klem, Masterkraft and E‑Kelly. Guest artistes on the album included Wande Coal, D’Prince, Banky W and Skales.
Samklef has previously said he received N250,000 for producing six tracks on Superstar and claimed he saw no further financial benefit from them. He has also sought royalties for songs, including ‘Pakurumo’ and called on Banky W to address unpaid royalties. Banky W has responded that his name was not on the royalty split sheet and advised Samklef to take the matter up with the relevant parties.
As of now, neither Banky W nor Wizkid has publicly commented on Samklef’s claim.
Superstar continues to be recognised as an important project in Wizkid’s early career, and in 2024 it climbed into the top 10 on Apple Music’s chart in Nigeria during anniversary celebrations.
