Activist and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Aisha Yesufu has accused Channels Television of misrepresenting her comments in the title of an interview aired on the station.
In a post on her 𝕏 account on Monday, Mrs. Yesufu said she did not state during the interview that the ADC lost the 2026 Federal Capital Territory Area Council election.
Channels Television had uploaded the interview on its YouTube page with the title, ‘Why ADC Lost The FCT By-elections – Aisha Yesufu.’
Reacting to the title, Yesufu said her position during the interview was that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was able to manipulate and rig the election because residents of Abuja did not turn out in large numbers as they do during general elections.
“Dear Channels TV @channelstv
This is a very disingenuous title and not representing the interview I did with your channel,” she wrote.
“There was never a time I mentioned ADC lost the FCT Area Council election. The point I consistently made was that APC was able to manipulate and rig the election because Abuja residents did not come out en masse as they usually would during General election.”
She said that if voter turnout had matched that of general elections, alleged manipulation, rigging and vote buying would have reduced the margin rather than result in a declaration of victory.
Aisha Yesufu also stated that, since she became a resident of Abuja, the ADC has been able to mobilise more residents to participate in FCT Area Council elections, although turnout was lower than in general elections.
“I also mentioned that compared to previous FCT Area Council elections (I have voted in all since I became Abuja resident), ADC were able to get more residents interested and coming out even though it was not as high as the turnout during general elections.
“Kindly do the needful and correct the title to represent the interview I did with your channel.”
She called on Channels Television to amend the title of the interview to reflect her remarks.
