Media executive Mo Abudu has shared her experience of leaving a stable career in the oil and gas sector at age 40 to follow her passion in media.
Speaking at a conference on career growth and personal development, Abudu described the move as a calling. “I left my stable 9‑to‑5 oil and gas job at 40 to follow mine. It was a really nice job and there was no reason to leave, but I knew God wanted me to do something else,” she told the audience.
Before entering media, Abudu held senior roles in human resources and training at ExxonMobil, where she earned recognition for her work. Despite the security and prestige of her corporate career, she felt compelled to step out of her comfort zone to create a broader impact.
Since founding EbonyLife TV, Abudu has produced and executive produced numerous films and television projects, including The Wedding Party, The Governor, Castle and Castle and Chief Daddy. Her work has been recognised for promoting African stories and talent on a global stage.
