Actor Don Richard has cried out for help, saying he has lost everything in his battle with kidney disease.
The actor, whose real name is Richards Oguntimehin, made the emotional appeal in a video shared on Instagram by actress Biola Adebayo on Tuesday.
In the video, Don revealed that his wife, who initially supported him, eventually walked away after selling their car and house to pay for his treatment.
He said:
“My kidney is having issues. I came out and met my wife and burst into tears. I told my wife, ‘Mummy twins, another man is a lucky man.’ She is also avoiding me because I am broke. With the way that I am, unknown to me that I will leave.”
“When my wife was told about my health, she started crying. And I told her that another man is a lucky man. I begged her to take good care of my children (twins).”
“Immediately she left the hospital, she went to dispose of our house and car for my treatment. I have nothing left anymore.”
Don Richard also disclosed how he sold his car for N1.5 million to support his medical bills.
He said:
“I sold my car for N1.5 million.”
Reflecting on the struggles in his life and the current reality of his condition, he said:
“God’s plan for any marriage is for better or worse. Most people don’t prepare for bad times; they only prepare for good ones.”
“I would walk from Bariga to Chemist to Unilag, Iwaya, Sabo, Yaba, Ojuelegba, then take a cab through the bridge. I did it for eight months.”
Speaking further on his present health situation, he said:
“The doctor spoke to me and I was scared. Looking for 30 million. I was like, ‘God, I don’t have such an amount. You are my life secret. If you leave me, people will know my secret.'”
“A friend asked me what I wanted, and I told him to look for a place for me to rest, even if it’s borrowed.”
Biola Adebayo, who posted the video, also shared his account details for those willing to help, noting that Don Richard has been battling kidney disease for some time.
She wrote:
“Please let’s come together to support this amazing actor. No amount is too small.”
Fans and colleagues have since taken to social media to show support and urge the Nollywood community to rally around him.
