Former First Lady of Ondo State Betty Akeredolu has said she has no regrets about her marriage to late former governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

She made the statement on Wednesday in a post on her Instagram page.

Mrs Akeredolu said Imo State remains her home and that her roots are not in question.

“I am from Imo State, Owerri zone, Owerri West local government and Emeabiam,” she wrote.

She said her marriage outside her state gave her wider experience but did not change her background.

“My marriage across the Niger, I do not regret. It has given me broader experience but it has not erased my roots,” she said.

Akeredolu, who is seeking to contest for the Imo East Senatorial seat, said her time as first lady helped her understand grassroots politics.

She said the experience has shaped how she relates with people.

“If anything, these experiences have prepared me better to serve,” she added.

She said her decision to contest is based on her desire to serve her state.

“I am going back home to join hands to rebuild Imo State,” she said.

Betty Akeredolu also said she believes she can serve best where she is valued.
