Singer Yemi Alade has opened up about falling into depression after lying about her age for three years.
The ‘Johnny’ hitmaker made the revelation in a chat with media personality Chude Jideonwo, where she reflected on a confusing period in her life and the emotional toll it took on her mental health.
“There was a time someone asked me my age, and for three years I kept saying I was 22. Then I realised I was actually 25,” Yemi said. “I took out my phone, did the maths, and when I found out the truth, I was depressed for a few days. My mind couldn’t take the reality. It was mental. For three years, I didn’t know my real age.”
She added, “It was mental. I didn’t even know who I was at that time.”
The award-winning artiste said the experience left her questioning her identity and struggling to process how she had become disconnected from reality.
Her revelation has drawn reactions online.
