Billionaire businessman Obinna Iyiegbu, also known as Obi Cubana, has denied claims that his recent remarks in Enugu State were against the Igbo people.
Obi Cubana, chairman of the Cubana Group, said the comments he made at a City Boy Movement event were misunderstood or taken out of context.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Igbo on Monday, he said a short clip of his longer speech circulated online and did not reflect the full context of his remarks.
“My speech was perhaps deliberately misunderstood. I did not intend to insult Ndigbo,” he said.
He said his comments were aimed at encouraging civic participation and engagement in governance, not to attack any group.
Obi Cubana also said his involvement in political discussions is intended to promote dialogue between citizens and government.
He added that people should be free to support political candidates of their choice without fear or intimidation.
He cautioned against narratives that could create division and said public attention should not be focused on a small number of dissenting voices.
Obi Cubana pointed to activities of the City Boy Movement, including an event in Owerri, as examples of peaceful political engagement.
He reaffirmed his connection to the Igbo people, saying his activities have been in the interest of progress and development.
He called for unity among Ndigbo at home and in the diaspora and urged continued participation in discussions around governance and development.
