Actress Toluwani George has said she struggled with imposter syndrome after entering Nollywood without a theatre background.
In an interview with TheCable Lifestyle, she explained that her journey into acting was not planned but began during the COVID period when she started creating TikTok videos.
“It was very circumstantial for me. It wasn’t deliberate. I think it started during COVID… the whole world was on hold… So, I had started just doing these videos on TikTok.”
A producer later invited her to audition for a church drama, which led to a feature film role despite her lack of experience.
“I am like, you think I can do it with no acting experience? He’s like, yeah, I think you can do it. And so he gave me my first, like, actual feature film. And I did it.”
She said subsequent projects landed on streaming platforms, including the Showmax series Wura, where she played Eve.
Toluwani admitted she often felt pressured to prove herself.
“So I used to have imposter syndrome, especially because I didn’t have a theatre background.”
She added that she had to work harder to counter claims that she secured roles because of her looks.
“For the longest, I struggled with that… Now I have to show that I’m not just a pretty face.”
The actress said she avoids social media negativity by staying off X and blocking trolls when necessary.
Toluwani has also featured in Love and New Notes alongside Timini Egbuson and appeared in projects distributed on Netflix and Prime Video. She said several new works are set for release.
