I battled debt for years despite being famous -TG Omori

Music video director ThankGod Omori, popularly known as TG Omori, has opened up about the financial struggles he endured on his journey to becoming one of Nigeria’s most in-demand cinematographers.

During an interactive session with fans on X (formerly Twitter), Omori revealed that despite his prominence in the industry, he only began making profits from music video production in 2023.

Responding to a fan’s question on pricing and budgeting, the director said, “I only started making profits in 2023. Every time I’m losing money from pick-up shoots or something!

“Budget is never enough. In fact, I was in bad production debt for five years. Just had to live with it — I was paying up and taking more to cover up.”

Omori further disclosed that it was not the actual video projects but rather the earnings from his brand and public profile that eventually helped him offset the massive production debts he had accrued over the years.

“I was only able to pay it off through money my brand and personality was fetching me. It’s a tough life for creatives. Hug a creative beside you today,” he added.

Recall that in 2023, singer Davido disclosed during an interview with Beats FM Lagos that he paid TG Omori a whopping N100 million to direct the video for his hit single ‘Jowo.’

Omori later confirmed the claim in a post on social media.
