Former actress Tonto Dikeh has said she does not consider herself an actress, responding to a fan who expressed excitement about her releasing a movie soon.
The fan who was commenting on her post on Instagram had written, “Can’t wait for you to release movies that would change the trajectory of the industry and bring massive revival to all.”
Tonto replied, “I acted for only 4 years. I am not an actress.”
She added, “Yes I was amazing while I was good at it, I never loved it the way people assumed. Deep down, I always knew God placed me there for a reason. Now I understand. He was positioning me, giving me a global voice ahead of my true assignment.”
Her comments reflect a shift away from Nollywood, which she has spoken about previously. In 2022, she told BBC News Pidgin that she had effectively quit acting and did not plan to return, following her involvement in politics as a deputy governorship candidate in Rivers State with the African Democratic Congress.
Tonto said acting had been a brief part of her life, and while she respected the industry, it was not her long-term pursuit.
Tonto began her acting career in the mid-2000s, appearing in films such as Missing Rib and Games Fools Play. Over time, she moved into music, television presenting, and other public ventures, but she has not been active on screen for several years.
She remains active on social media and continues to focus on other projects beyond film.
