Hundreds of supporters on Thursday gathered at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, Bauchi, to welcome the State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, following his return from Abuja.

Commissioner Adamu arrived after the Federal High Court in Abuja granted him bail in an alleged terrorism financing case pending before the court.

Supporters, drawn from different parts of the state, received the commissioner with chants and prayers.

Some told journalists that the court’s decision was reassuring and urged the public to allow the judicial process to continue.

At his family residence in Bauchi, Adamu thanked the people of the state and other well-wishers for their support.

He urged his supporters to remain law-abiding and to respect constituted authority.

He also asked residents to continue supporting the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed.

The case remains pending before the Federal High Court and Adamu is expected to comply with the bail conditions.

The Bauchi State commissioner for finance was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged terrorism financing and money laundering.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had charged Adamu and three other civil servants with offences totaling $9.7 million.

At his arraignment, the court granted bail in the sum of N100 million.

Co-defendants Balarabe Ilelah, Aminu Bose and Kabiru Mohammed were also granted bail in the same sum.

Earlier, the EFCC had alleged that funds meant for the supply of motorcycles to the Bauchi State Government were diverted to private accounts.

Investigations showed that part of the funds was traced to Ayab Agro Products and Freight Company Limited.

Yakubu Adamu’s lawyer applied for bail pending the determination of the case, while the EFCC opposed an accelerated hearing but did not object to the bail.

The court adjourned proceedings until Friday, January 30, for the continuation of the trial.
