Filmmaker Femi Adebayo has explained how piracy was addressed during the release of his latest film, Ageshinkole 2.
Speaking in an interview, Femi said the responsibility of managing piracy was handled by Circuit TV, one of the collaborators on the project. He said the structure put in place helped protect the film throughout its release.
In his words, “Piracy was fully handled by circuit TV. They have an extremely wonderful structure in which the content they have can be pirated. Then with Blue Pictures, my distributor, we brought together our experience and we had no doubts that with our logistics and framework, we would get it right.”
The filmmaker said the approach delivered results, as Ageshinkole 2 grossed over N400 million within its first 12 days.
In December 2025, Femi announced the sequel, titled Ageshinkole 2: King of Thieves 2, alongside a community cinema tour across Nigeria. The strategy departed from the traditional cinema release model by taking the film directly to local communities.
The screenings were held in community halls and event centres across several states, running from December 2025 into early January. Femi described the move as a way of reaching a wider audience while improving distribution control.
Ageshinkole 2 is a sequel to King of Thieves, released in 2022, which became one of the highest grossing Yoruba language films in Nigerian cinema. The new film continues the story with an expanded scale and a focus on indigenous storytelling.
