Filmmaker Funke Akindele has revealed that her soon-to-be-released film Behind The Scene was inspired by the “spirit of God.”
The 48-year-old spoke about the project during the FilmOne Exhibitor Showcase held on Thursday.
Funke said she had initially planned to release a sequel to her record-breaking film A Tribe Called Judah before divine direction changed her plans.
“We weren’t supposed to release Behind The Scene, I actually wanted to release A Tribe Called Judah 2. We’d even started rehearsals, negotiations, you know, training. But the spirit of God kept telling me, no, you will not shoot that film,” she said.
She added, “Okay, and we tried, we tried almost four other scripts, lovely scripts. And the spirit of God said, ‘you are joking.’ We even wanted to partner with someone, a fantastic actor, a filmmaker. The spirit of God said you’re wasting your time, you will shoot this film. And the idea just came with just one scene. And I said, I’m like, this is relatable. A lot of people are going through what is happening in this film, what is going to happen, what you’re going to see in this movie.”
Behind The Scene, produced under the Funke Akindele Network, is scheduled to hit cinemas on December 12, 2025.
Her last film, A Tribe Called Judah, was released in December 2023 and became the first Nollywood movie to gross over N1 billion at the box office.
The film, co-directed by Funke and Adeoluwa Owu, featured Jide Kene Achufusi, Timini Egbuson, Tobi Makinde, Uzee Usman and Olumide Oworu.
A Tribe Called Judah received praise from the Lagos State government and industry stakeholders for its success.
