Actor Afeez Owo has opened up on how social media almost tore his marriage apart.
The 59-year-old made the revelation on the Behind The List podcast, recalling the first and only serious fight he and Mide Martins ever had.
According to Afeez, the clash happened in 2016 when anger led him to leave their home and stay in a hotel for two days. Mide, on her part, took to social media, saying “my husband has left me alone with our child,” which sparked separation rumours.
Afeez admitted, “I scattered things and at some point, I even thought, is this how it’s going to end?” He added, “Social media made it worse because it was something we should have resolved privately.”
Refuting claims that he abandoned Mide and their child, Afeez said she had taken bad advice from friends who wanted to create havoc in their home. “Thankfully, we reconciled and came back together,” he said, expressing relief that love saved their marriage.
The couple are still married with two children and often describe each other as their backbone and supporter.
In December 2024, while receiving the Best Actress of the Year award from OAFP, Mide knelt to appreciate Afeez, saying without him, “there is no me.” She thanked him for being there after the loss of her mother.
In April, the couple celebrated their birthdays together in grand style. Afeez shared a heartfelt Instagram post, writing, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME OLAYIWOLA AFEEZ ABIODUN. OLOHUN JE N GBE DEBI IRE AMIN. It’s Double Celebration For Me Today.”
Mide reciprocated with a loving post, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY IGI LEYIN OGBA MI. I LOVE YOU AMOO OKO MI OLOWO ORI MI.”
The celebrations were filled with fun and surprises. Afeez gifted Mide foreign currency, and in sheer joy, Mide lifted him off the ground, a moment fans couldn’t stop gushing over. She later said, “I don’t know how to thank you enough. Please, pray for him.”
