How rift with Kcee affected my career – Harrysong

Singer Harrison Okiri, known as Harrysong, has said his dispute with his former record label boss, Kcee, affected his career and creativity for several years.

He spoke about the impact during a recent interview on Jusmen FM.

Harrysong and Kcee’s conflict dates back to 2017, when the singer left Kcee’s Five Star Music label and accused the company of withholding royalties, treating him unfairly, and limiting his creative output. At the time, Harrysong said he wrote several hit songs released under the label. Kcee and the label responded with denials, and the disagreements escalated publicly.

“The beef with Kcee used to distract me, it used to affect the music. Because most of the time, instead of recording, I would be thinking of how to reply Kcee and continue to fight. So, it distracted me. It affected my creativity,” Harrysong said.

The dispute also played out on social media, with Harrysong claiming in 2023 that Kcee had been collecting full royalties from some of his songs for years. He listed tracks including ‘Reggae Blues’, ‘Baba for the Girls’ and ‘Samankwe’ as examples. Kcee has denied these claims and defended his record with the label.

Harrysong said he has now resolved his differences with Kcee and Five Star Music. He also noted that he has learned to cope with controversies so they no longer distract him from making music.

Beyond the feud, Harrysong continues to work on his music and in 2024 was appointed Executive Assistant on Entertainment to the Delta State governor.
