Singer Flavour has revealed how the award-winning music defunct group P-Square inspired him to become a recording artiste.
The highlife musician made the revelation while speaking on the In My Opinion podcast hosted by media personality Olufemi Ogundoro.
Flavour, whose real name is Chinedu Okoli, recalled an incident years ago when he was performing at a show as a live singer, but had to vacate the stage the moment Peter and Paul Okoye arrived at the venue.
“Back then, I used to go to shows. I was a singer but not yet an artiste. I would just go with my live band, we play songs and I perform. Then one day, dem say make we commot for stage. Who come? P-Square,” he said.
According to Flavour, the duo’s entrance and the wild reaction from the crowd shook him, especially when he realised they were performing their own songs.
“As they mounted the stage and started performing, the crowd went crazy. I was stunned. I said, ‘This is the real deal!’ They created their own music, and I hadn’t done that yet. That moment changed everything for me.”
The singer said he went home that day with a clear goal — to stop being just a live performer and become a full-fledged artiste with original music.
Flavour, who began his career as a church drummer in Enugu before mastering other instruments and singing backup, released his debut album N’abania in 2005.
He has since released multiple successful projects including Uplifted, Blessed, Thankful, Ijele the Traveler and Flavour of Africa.
P-Square, who were already a national sensation at the time of Flavour’s encounter with them, rose to fame in the early 2000s with hits like ‘Senorita’ and ‘Do Me.’
