Afrobeats singer Bella Shmurda has spoken about a period in his career when poor financial decisions almost left him broke.
He shared the experience during an interview with Nigerian YouTuber Korty EO, explaining how sudden fame influenced his spending habits.
“I used to have a lot of money but I rushed things. I wish I was wise then,” he admitted.
Bella said he got carried away trying to maintain a lavish lifestyle, spending heavily on things he later realised were unnecessary.
“I was just buying things extravagantly, things I eventually had no need for,” he said.
The ‘Cash App’ singer also spoke about the financial strain of supporting a large circle of friends at the time.
“I was accommodating up to ten of my friends back then and we were all receiving female visitors,” he revealed.
“I bought three cars at once just so that my friends would go out with me in convoy,” he said.
Reflecting on that period, he said, “I was reckless.”
Bella added that the experience has changed how he now handles money.
“At this point, as I am getting new money, I have to think about every move I want to take,” he added.
Bella Shmurda rose to prominence in 2019 with his breakout single ‘Vision 2020’. He gained wider attention after featuring on the remix with Olamide and has since released multiple projects, including his debut album Hypertension in 2022.
