Actress Bimbo Ademoye on Tuesday shared a story of betrayal by a close friend while promoting her new movie To Be A Friend.
The 34-year-old on Instagram said she supported the friend who also wanted to become an actor by helping her with clothes, shoes, bags and more whenever they attended events together.
“I remember I once had a friend who wanted to be an actor as well. Whenever we attended events, I’d shop for her as well. I’m talking clothes, shoes, bags and all. I wanted her to look like the superstar she wanted to become. Mind you, I was already getting fame because I already had movies like Sugar Rush, Looking for Baami, Back Up Wife and all. Let me add that I had already been nominated twice for the AMVCA,” she wrote.
Bimbo said things began to change during a movie premiere where she played the lead role.
“One day, I had a premiere to attend. It was a movie I was in and I played the lead role. My stylist had done fittings for me like twice in the presence of this friend. I had asked her what she was going to wear and she was like, ‘I don’t even know, maybe I’d just look casual chic.’ I responded with, ‘Just look good o, you can’t be my friend and look drab.’
“I got my make-up done, hair done, everything done. It was time to wear my dress. Tell me why aunty pulled out the same exact dress I was wearing in another colour,” she added with laughter emojis.
She said her sister warned her that the friend’s actions were not okay.
“In all honesty, I didn’t really mind. But my sister, who has never been wrong, said to me, ‘Preke, I don’t think that was ok. She should let you have your moment. She’s not even an actress yet, talk more of being in the film you’re in.’ I told her, ‘Naaah, it’s not that serious, Bikesy.’”
The actress said her friend began to dress to compete with her at every event, all at her own expense.
“It was as if something woke up in her that day. For every event we attended, she’d always want to dress or look more expensive, which I didn’t mind, on my tab.”
She said things got worse after she fell ill.
“Then one day, I fell sick. Days turned to weeks, weeks to months, I didn’t see this aunty. So I took my L and cut her off.”
According to her, the friend later created a fake Instagram page to troll her and even contacted her boyfriend at the time.
“Tell me why this daughter of Jezebel created a fake page on IG and started trolling me and sending messages to my boyfriend at the time saying all sorts. The craziest part, she even tried to link up with him romantically.
“Anyways, let me stop here. We’d continue this story another day, if there’s any need to.”
Bimbo used the post to promote her newly released film To Be A Friend, which is currently streaming on YouTube via BimboAdemoyeTV.
“PS. To Be A Friend is still showing on BimboAdemoyeTV. Click the link on my bio or story to watch it,” she wrote.
She also promised to give N100,000 to a fan who could identify a scene where Kunle Remi wore the suit shown in her post.
“Who remembers this look from KR? What scene was it? I’d send 100k for lunch to 1 person who can tell me the scene in the comments.”
To Be A Friend, written by Bimbo herself, stars Kunle Remi, Uzor Arukwe and Deyemi Okanlawon.
The film explores themes of loyalty, betrayal and toxic friendships. Some viewers have praised the movie for its “classic Nollywood” feel and emotional storytelling.
The film which premiered on YouTube on July 4, gained over one million views nearly a day after it’s release.
Bimbo is known for her roles in Sugar Rush, Aníkúlápó, Big Love and the comedy series Iya Barakat Teropi Secxxion. She won the 2023 AMVCA Best Actress in a Comedy for her performance in Selina.
